THE ROCK GARDEN SHRINE
Travis and I visited Mt. Mitake near the end of our Japan study abroad program. Mt. Mitake is at the outskirt of Tokyo; going there took us a good two and a half hours from Totsuka. We browsed around town and hiked to a couple different lookout points, and decided to come to Ayahiro waterfall at the very end. By the time we got here, it was already 5PM and it was very misty. Several thoughts that troubled me here were:
1. We weren’t sure when is the last tram to descend Mt. Mitake.
2. JR trains that come and depart from Mitake JR station is limited daily.
3. It takes at least an hour and a half to hike back to the tram.
I thought it was going to be Man vs. Wild for that night, but we lucked out because we were able to hiked back out just in time to catch the last tram AND the last JR train back to town. We knocked out on our way back, and we woke up just in time to change trains. An unbelievable day, but very adventurous.
